Sri TK Sribhashyam

Tribute to Sri TK Sribhashyam

03.04.1940 - 12. 11. 2017

Sri TK Sribhashyam was a Teacher of Indian Philosophy, Ayurveda and Yoga full of courage, perseverance and faithfulness. When asked why his father, Sri T. Krishnamacharya, recommended the practice of Yoga, Sri TK Sribhashyam reported that his father cited the acquisition of these qualities as one of the main reasons. Because the goal of Sri TK Sribhashyam - like that of his father - was Devotion, Bhakti, for which he invested himself with love and spirituality. He taught his students, as well as the public who came to listen to him, that Devotion, this impulse of the heart, is identical to everyone, that it is in us, non-variable and immutable and that it precisely requires these qualities to do it every day.

He respected the different religions and understood the different sensitivities, reading in the human being. He knew the art of metaphors and anecdotes, and found the words by adapting to his listeners, never explaining a subject of philosophy twice in the same way. Everyone who attended his teaching experienced a unique moment.

Sribhashyam has dedicated his life to Yoga and its traditional teaching, making the western world aware that it is not a practice of gymnastics, relaxation or sport.

Spontaneous and sincere, Sri TK Sribhashyam knew how to lighten the atmosphere with his confidence, his smile and his jokes full of candor and light. He burst out laughing as he carried everyone away in his joy. He quoted his wife Claire and his children, Sumitra and Satya, to each seminar in one way or another, simply showing his love for his family.

With his sense of humor and awareness of reality, Sri TK Sribhashyam said that a master always had something in his pocket. With generosity, he gave us his confidence in our ability to practice what we have received and to transmit it ourselves with fidelity.

We are grateful, respectful and full of gratitude for the knowledge he transmitted to us, for the books he accepted to write, for the love he had in his teaching and which he offered to us.

Thank you Sri TK Sribhashyam.

Sri TK Sribhashyam is one of the six children of Sri T. Krishnamacharya, recognized as one of the greatest yogis of the 20th century. Born in Mysore (India) in 1940, he was trained by his father from an early age in Indian philosophy, Ayurveda and Yoga. By family tradition, Sri TK Sribhashyam belongs to the Vishishta Advaita tradition, one of the branches of Vedānta. He is a direct descendant of Sri Nātha Muni (9th century). From the age of sixteen, he began to teach Yoga and practice Ayurveda with his father. From 1970, Sri TK Sribhashyam taught in Europe and faithfully transmitted the teaching received from his father. Sri TK Sribhashyam obtained a Masters in Philosophy from the Faculty of Madras. In 1999, Mysore Sanskrit College awarded him the title of Āchārya (Master) for his fidelity to the traditional teaching of Indian philosophy. In 1982, Sri TK Sribhashyam established the Yogakshemam school with the blessing of his father who chose the name. He was an Honorary Member of the International Yoga Federation and of the World Yoga Council.

Sri TK Sribhashyam wrote "Emergence of Yoga" to explain the origin of yoga, as well as "Mokṣa Mārga, a route in Indian philosophy", "Śaraṇāgati yoga, From Devotion to Total Surrender, in the Light of Indian Philosophy" and “Bhakti, Quintessence of Indian Philosophy” with his sister Alamelu Sheshadri. He took part in the film “Breath of the Gods” in honor of his father.
